I know. I am not saying he only got back spasms and that was it, but I still think the "standard procedure" - as far as these lawsuits are concerned - ridiculous.

In court docs, Henderson alleges he “has suffered a limitation of activities and loss of enjoyment of life…” The Flames are also defendants.

These are injuries claimed by referee Don Henderson in lawsuit (as well as head injury and concussion) #nhl

Henderson says in addition to medication and treatment he's required psychological counselling. #NHL

Henderson also says Wideman was "aware that (he) remained unsuspecting and was completely defenceless" and that he "disregarded NHL rules"

Henderson says Wideman cost him ten million in lost/future income and earning capacity. #flames have not filed statement of defense yet - this made me chuckle

It's obligatory. Statements of claim usually ask for the moon.

Henderson's damages are capped at ~$400k for pain, suffering, and loss of enjoyment because that's the law in Canada. And amounts like that are for people who are paralyzed or brain damaged.

Then he gets whatever he can prove in lost salary and cost of future care.

Pretty low chance Wideman wants to fight this out in Court and we'll never know, but I'd be absolutely shocked if he got more than 1.5M to 2M at the end of the day.

Curious as to how many of his symptoms were exacerbated by his decision to continue and finish the game and make numerous trips to Toronto for the Wideman hearings.

its pretty amazing that he was able to get up and drop the puck 30 seconds later and finish the game with all those injuries

what a trooper

The loss of 10 million in future earnings seems a little off considering he was retiring.

My own two cents:
My mom had a colleague who once slipped and fell flat on his back in a hotel lobby in Chicago. Nobody dared to even touch the man, let alone help him up, for fear of being sued dead broke, I presume. This mentality over there is pathetic.
